    Tove Storch,
    Untitled (Unknown Object), 2009
    silicone, cloth, wood.

This artwork is a minimalist sculture in which was made to explore light, materials and space to create an illusion to the viewers so that they have to think about and wonder what the materials are or what the actual artwork is and how much it weighs. Storch also, wanted to make her work look like heavier materials being heavy and solid metal but when the viewer got closer to the artwork they see that the materials are actually only made out of lighter materials such as silk and light weight wood.

I find this work interesting because of the way the artist has successfully made the work in the way she wanted (being, making the viewer wonder what this artwork is about and how it is made) That is what i first thought "what the heck is this, and what is it made of?!." I also thought this work was interesting because of what is inside the actual piece, It made me think about what it actually was.

I think that this work relates to my interests because i to would also like to make people look and have to think of my work and be confused about it, rather than them looking, realizing what it is and what it is made out of and then move onto the next work very quickly.

  2. I thought the exact same thing stevie. Started asking heaps of questions...what is it? what does it do? In what way am i mean to look at this? is there something inside it? Almost made me feel a little frustrated really. But i do like the mysteriousness of it and I agree with you again when you say you would want people to be confused about your artwork; i think that is what the artist has done here and it makes the artwork a lot more interesting when there is no "right" answer of what it is, it can sort of be whatever you want it to be. Quote from the Auckland triennial exhibition guide..."We are not given any definite answers, but we are asked to reflect on the potency of art to explore afresh even familiar forms and substances".
